What Kanarche is

Kanarche (kanarche.eu) is a free map of the air in Bulgaria. It is non-commercial. There are no adverts, no paywall and no accounts. The source code is open under the MIT licence. Hosting is donated.

Where the data comes from

We do not measure anything ourselves. The map shows data that others collect and publish:

• citizen sensors on the Sensor.Community network, installed and looked after by volunteers
• official stations of the Executive Environment Agency (ИАОС), published through the European Environment Agency (EEA)
• wind and pollen forecasts from Open-Meteo. The pollen forecast comes from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS)
• bathing water classes from the European Environment Agency
• the base map and boundaries from OpenStreetMap, and the national border from Natural Earth

Each source is responsible for the accuracy of its own data. We combine readings into area medians and averages. We run automatic quality checks and mark stations that fail them as faulty. We do not correct the values themselves.

Treat the numbers as a guide

Citizen sensors are low-cost devices, not reference instruments. High humidity can push their readings up. Some stations may be old, poorly maintained or broken. We do not inspect, maintain or calibrate any station. Forecasts are models, not measurements. Any reading can be wrong, late or missing.

Do not use this site for medical, health or safety decisions. If you have symptoms or a condition, ask a doctor. For official warnings, follow the Ministry of Health, the regional health inspectorates (РЗИ) and ИАОС.

No warranty

We provide the site and the data as they are. We do not promise that they are accurate, complete, current or available at any given time. The site may change or stop without notice. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site or the data, or from relying on them. This includes decisions made on the basis of what the map shows. Nothing here limits any liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

Who we are not

Kanarche is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or run by Sensor.Community or airbg.info (Код България). It is also not affiliated with the Executive Environment Agency (ИАОС), the European Environment Agency, Copernicus, Open-Meteo or OpenStreetMap, nor with the Ministry of Health or the regional health inspectorates. We use their open data under their licences. Naming them credits the source. It does not mean they support or check this site.

Licences

Each source keeps its own licence. We credit them on the map, in the footer and on the Licences page. Sensor.Community data and OpenStreetMap data are under ODbL 1.0. Open-Meteo wind data, the CAMS pollen forecast and EEA bathing water data are under CC BY 4.0. ИАОС data published by the EEA follows the EEA terms of use. If you reuse data from this site, the original licence applies and you should credit the original source. The Kanarche code is under the MIT licence.

Privacy

The site sets no cookies and keeps no IP address or other identifier. The details are on the Privacy page and in the Privacy section of About.

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the last change. Every earlier version is in the public source code history.
